| I have found a beautiful village on the Mediterranean coast of Syria. Maten al Sahel is situated on the top of a mountain 15 kilometers north of Tartus. Olive trees cover the hillsides completely down to the sea. Painting in the groves has been a most memorable experience. The men in the village love to play cards; and the fish is done delicately over charcoal. I asked them how many Americans come through your village in a season. They laughed and said, "Mr Jim, you are the first in our lifetime!" | ||||
